CalBank Open Championship 2018
The 2018 CalBank Open Golf Championship climaxed on Saturday 20th October at the Achimota Golf Course. The three-day event, bigger than it has ever been, attracted hundreds of golfers from across the country and beyond. The annual event is organized in a bid to empower both amateurs and professionals of the golf fraternity.
The Executive Director of the Bank, Mr. Philip Owiredu intoned that regardless challenges in the financial sector, the Bank is strong and committed to supporting the development of golf in Ghana and hoped for a “better and more competitive tournament” for next year.
This year’s event saw over 200 golfers playing their hearts out in a bid to win the tournament’s coveted trophies. Victor Oyongo, a Ghanaian-based Kenyan, came out as the overall winner of the Men’s Group A with a net score of 68 and grossed 77 with his new handicap of 9 with Ben Dabrah and Chao Peng taking the second and third places with respectively.
The Men’s Group B competition saw Yaw Afriyie taking first place with 67 net with Kwame Boafo and Samuel K. Boafo placing second and third correspondingly. In the Ladies Group A category, Leticia Amponsah Mensah with a net score of 70, beat Jane Opoku and Mona Captan to emerge the overall winner. Agnes Adams also won the first place trophy for the Ladies Group B category with the Bank’s very own, Samuel K. Boafo and Antoinette Ollenu winning the Sponsor’s Award for Best Male and Best Female respectively.
Mr. Ben Botchwey, captain of the Achimota Golf Club, applauded CalBank for its continuous assistance and dedication to the development of golf in the country.
